Default Transmision fluid change

I just ran across something on line that recommended getting the fluid changed in the trans at 60,000 mi. Is that right?

ZF recommends a fluid change at 100,000 miles or 10 years for the 5HP24 gearbox.

Great thanks! Any idea how much the procedure costs?

Chaz, there's many a'discussion about that in the XJ area and around the xk8 forum. Dealer will charge 800-1000, mainly because of the high cost of the jaguar fluid. There are other threads that members have recommended other fluids, much more available and affordable. I think you can probably get the job done at an independent transmission shop, parts (filter, gasket), fluid, labor and all under $500. Most important is to acquire your own fluid that you want, get the filter and gasket from jaguar (maybe a few pan bolts just in case) and give them to the shop...that way, all you have is a labor quote to worry about.

I'm sure there are others that can quote you a more accurate number, but regional prices will vary.

Thanks! That is some valuable advice. And I'll take it!

Thanks for the info - I'm looking at 10 years, but much less mileage (32K). However there is a big difference between a "change" and a "flush" - any comments on that one? Thanks, DaleD

There are not many folks with the fitting capability to 'flush' the 5HP24. Lots of discussion about flushes loosing 'crud' but since the fluid circulates continually my little mind has a problem grasping that.

My personal philosophy is to change it at 60k along with the filter and 30k after that.

www.zftranspart.com cheaper prices than a dealer, plus fast delivery! Oh, while you are at it replace the rubber electrical sleeve for $12.00 more!
