Default Transmission Check

2001 XK8 can't seem to find how to check the transmission fluid. Or any specs on the type of fluid.

I don't know why you have had no response to your post, maybe because the information is available from the Sticky's or using the forum search. Also from jagrepair.com. Sometimes the members don't reply if they think you're just being lazy. Here is a useful link:

Unfortunately, there is no dipstick for the transmission fluid... they are supposedly "sealed for life".

If you want to do a bit of research, the transmission is a 5HP24 by the German company ZF (it's been used in several cars so there is a lot out there). As the refill procedure involves monitoring the temperature, the design does not include a traditional dip stick.

"Sealed for Life" equals 100,000 miles in manufacturers' lingo (that's the expected life of the automobile). Though there is no dipstick, it is a good idea to drain-and-fill a portion of the trans fluid about every 60,000 miles. Do a search of this forum for DIY procedure, or, find a good Indy shop who knows the transmission. If you replace the pan and filter yourself, there are several excellent offers on eBay and/or after market retailers. Here's the fluid spec for your model:
