Default Transmission Fault

Driving at 35 mph when my '02 xk8 lurched, stalled and 'Transmission Fault' warning appeared. Was able to roll in to an empty parking lot. Shifted into park and tried to restart but got nothing. Called AAA. After about 15 min. tried again and started right up. Cancelled AAA and drove home. The 'Transmission Fault' warning has shown up several times in the past 6 months but this is the first time it stalled. In the past a restart was enough to clear the warning. I figure that the more I know when I take it into the transmission shop the better my chance for a happy outcome. Any ideas as to what's going on. Thanks alot.

Default Bad Battery

I think not. With car @50000 mi. the current battery can't have more then 10000 mi. on it.

Usually a failing battery results in several spurious codes, but it costs nothing to stop at one of the auto supply stores and ask them to load test it. There have been many battery failures reported after only 3-4 years, particularly on cars that are seldom driven or stored over the winter.

More likely is a poor electrical connection.

I agree with the poor connection idea and to point you in the(possibly) right direction get the codes read.
