Default Transmission Fill-Hole Question

WHERE IS IT??? I looked at the JTIS, which has illustrations drawn by 3rd graders. It was no help. I can see that it's supposed to be on one side of the transmission or the other, but I just can't find it. The exhaust pipes seem to be in the way. Do you have to remove the exhaust pipes to get to it? I can barely squeeze my hand past them, and there's no way I could manipulate a tool or direct a hose into the fill hole with the pipes in the way. Maybe I'm just looking in the wrong place.

Sam, see the illustration on page 5 of this link: http://www.zf.com/na/content/media/u...28_Catalog.pdf

It is on the right hand side, near the rear of the transmission , just above the oil pan. If the exhaust is in the way, you will not be able to see it dead on. The short end of an 8mm allen wrench will probably need to be ground down to fit in the space between the exhaust and the fill bolt.

Great document. Do you have one for the ZF 5HP24 transmission?

BTW this setup works perfect on my 99 XJ8 so not sure if it will on the XK as well. The 5/16 allen head and swivel together is the perfect length. Someone had rounded out the hole on mine and the 8mm was a little too small. The 5/16 seats all the way to the back of the hole in the plug.

Since I was under the Jag today I thought I'd snap a couple of pics of the plug for you.
