Transmission hose split

Transmission hose split
Car was shifting funny driving home from work last fall. It was winter, anyway so I stopped driving it.
I was in the Jaguar corner of the garage and checked under the car today and there was a small puddle of fluid by the radiator. Fluid looked felt like ATF - pink oily.
Shined a light past the Airbox and it looks like one of the rubber trans hoses to the radiator split.
Looks like I need a new hose and some fluid to get it back on the road for spring.
I thought the transmission was going out for the last 30 or so miles I drove it, but it appears it just was pumping itself dry.

Glad you didn’t wreck the trans. Our x350 did the same thing a few weeks ago. Cut out the old hose and dremeled the fittings off to save the barbs on the factory metal line. Bought some 1/2” transmission line and a few clamps and buttoned it all back together. Changed the trans pan and did a fluid change while I was at it. It is shifting better now than it was before the change.
Good luck with the repair!

Because the Trans will probably be coming out this summer to make way for a T56, I can't justify spending $200 on a new hose, so I'm probably going to do something similar.
I was going to do a inside metal tube/hose clamped butt joint at the spit, but your idea is much better. If the rubber line has already spit, more splits are in its future.

Well I’d say the same, but mine is a permanent fix. Hope it holds! I double clamped one end (the factory metal line has two large barbs to facilitate the crimp style joint they put on) but was only able to get a single clamp on the other ends due to not enough working space. The way I see it, as long as there is a barb there is no way a clamp is going to slide past it, as long as it is tightened down enough. I wouldn’t mind installing the factory lines again, except for the fact that they are a weak design (on the ZF6HP26 anyways) and will fail at the same joints at some point again.
Some of the guys on the S Type side of the forum installed AN fittings to theirs...pretty cool but extra work for the same end result, I thought. Whatever you do, make sure there is a barb on the factory line to catch the fitting/clamp from sliding off. There was a guy recently that, unknown to him, the PO had cut the barbs off and double clamped a rubber hose on. It ended up sliding right off and dumping a lot of his trans fluid out. Barbs are your friend in these repairs, whether they are factory or you flare your own. Here is the thread with a couple of pictures:

You might want to double check. The trans cooler lines are on the radiator end tank, driver side. The lines by the air box are likely for the power steering. As you know, there is a steering fluid cooler, so there is plumbing across the engine bay for it. Same thing came up a few weeks back...

Good catch on the location, Fmertz. Here is the recent thread if it is indeed a power steering line:

Agreed. Back in early January I thought I was looking at a transmission hose weep on my wife's XK8. Fmertz and chillyphilly set me straight with it actually being the infamous power steering fluid hose weep (which is an easier fix with more working room). Wayne (cjd777) and I fixed it last Tuesday using the brass barb hose connector method....

I did have to put PS fluid in it last summer, so it has likely been squirting fluid for a while.

I got the barb and 3/8" high pressure hose at the autoparts store tonight and am going to give the repair a go in the morning. If the 3/8" is too loose they had 5/16" barbs/hose right there.
Even buying both 3/8" and 5/16" and making two trips to the autoparts store, I'm $160 and 1 week wait ahead of sourcing a new hose.
My Trans Fluid/Filter gaskets showed up too, so I may tackle that after the PS line is repaired.
