Great post guys. I have a 2000 XK8 coming up on 50K this summer. Is there any additional info I need other than what you have posted here?

Another great source for ZF parts is, Ericson Ind. in Con. www.ericsonindustries.com. They are very familiar with the trannies in our cars, they are well stocked and are very prompt with shipping. When I orderd my pan for my '03 w/ the zf 6hp26 it cost me a little over $102.00, GENUINE ZF. I also used and recomend AMALIE universal synthetic ATF. It meets the shell 1375.4 specs... I called and spoke w/ an amalie rep. to confirm this... and it sells for about $5.00 a quart. I think it's the same as WOLFS HEAD brand. ALWAYS MAKE SURE YOU CHECK THE LEVEL!, I once overfilled mine by about a pint and did NOT shift as well. I'm trying to fit a sight glass in the fill-plug hole to make checking the level easier. I must also THANK REV SAM for all his GREAT videos and helpful text... this forum is a great team!

for a 2000 xk8 you do not change the pan, just the filter JLM20215, an o-ring JLM20217, and the pan gasket, JLM20204 ~$50 total for parts

fluid 6-7 qts pentosin ATF 1 ~$17 per quart

I just got off the phone with rmeuropean.com, they cannot tell me what parts I need. 722.6 Mercedes transmission, 5wa580 5 speed, do not give them any information. I will try a Mercedes dealership as per their recommedation.

Thanks

That is pretty sad...but they do have good prices. Look up any one of dozens of Mercedes that have this transmission on their website, such as the 2002 SLK-320. You can then choose by part type.

Well, I only ordered the 6 liter kit, but after reading about an overnight drain process which I intend to do, I didn't want to be left short, so I ordered a couple more just in case. Better safe than sorry. I'll let you know how mine turns out.

Thank you all for the information to point me in the right direction. After calling around the Bay Area to Mercedes dealerships, no one had the transmission pan. They could order it for $140+. Monterey had one for $114, which I picked up. RMeuropean.com has it for about $100. I also picked up the filter, gasket, and magnet. Chrysler also used the transmission in some cars, but do not stock any parts.

The problem was the ATF. Mercedes dealerships have it for over $22 a quart. I found out searching Mercedes forums that Shell makes the fluid, and everyone else puts their label on it, including Mercedes. I found it at Ryder Fleet for $5.38 a quart if you got a case, shipping was about $7.

Thanks Dan C.

Dan-

This thread is really confusing because it is mixing the discussion of two ZF transmissions and one Mercedes transmission.

You have the Mercedes transmission...it does not have the filter built into the pan...there is no reason for you to change the pan unless it is damaged.

I realized that after pondering the parts a bit yesterday. I have 10 days to return it. I could turn it into a service tray. Here's a paperweight I made for my wife from her VanDen Plas and XKR.
