Default Transmission seal leaking question?

There's a an 06 XKR for sale with a leak at the "transmission out seal" is this the same as the rear main seal or not? Also is this a diy job.. what is a fair quote to get it done?

Thanks

Ikon

They're probably referring to a leak at the rear seal of the transmission, where it meets the driveshaft.

It could also be a leak from the ZF electrical connector sleeve (a common issue with these cars). The replacement sleeves sold today have been redesigned and we hope they are not prone to leaking as the factory sleeves are. I don't believe that anyone who has changed this sleeve has reported that the improved version leaked as well. It's an inexpensive part, less than $20, but you must drop the ZF pan in order to change it (which means an ATF drain-and-fill along with the sleeve change)....

I would find out exactly where this leak is before pursuing the car....

Any chance you have a part number for that animal?

I'm thinking that might be part number JLM21109 for us earlier XK8 guys. They didnt replace this when I had my transmission rebuilt recently so I think I best do so before I drop the trany back in assuming the older XK8s had the same issues?

Thanks for the reply guys but the owner has not clarified the leaking issue. He's to send diagnosis of issue. Thanks guys I'm just trying to arm myself with knowledge, costs and potential bargaining tools.
