Default Transmission service ???

Getting ready to service the tranny, any recommendations for filter/fluid? Rock Auto has ATP filter for $14.33. What fluid is acceptable? Thanks

Standby for the replies on what fluid to use. I have the 6HP, and to tell the truth, after reading just about every thread on the subject and I'm still not sure which I'll choose.

Do a search though. There are several discussions on the subject already floating around in here. Maybe the 4 speed is less mysterious.

Ciao!

Your transmission requires a fluid meeting the ESSO LT71141 specification. Pick one. Don't fall for the snake oil $40 per liter Jaguar labeled version.

I used Motorcraft SP in my wife's BMW which calls for the same fluid spec. $8 or so at Ford dealership.

Not Esso spec. He says 6HP so spec is Shell M1375.4. thectsc.com is probably cheapest place.

As "Test point" said, any fluid that matches the spec will do.

Sorry, confused by the other post about 6HP. Go with Esso spec. (Cheaper, too!)
