Perhaps I could get some feedback on the topic of transmission whine. I notice the whine on first thru third (maybe fourth). There is also a delay of between 1 and 2 seconds when shifting from Park to Reverse and also the opposite. Is this all normal on a 2005 XK8 with 63,000 miles?

 

Neither of our ZF 6HP26 units whine at any speed or in any gear. Have you done an ATF drain-and-fill using a fluid that we know is appropriate (Mercon SP or Lifeguard 6)? Are you positive that your ATF is not low?

 

Hmm. That's disturbing. I would have preferred 'of course, they all whine like that'! Yes, the fluid was changed (or as much as could be drained and changed) at 60k, using Mercon SP. The pan / filter, as well as mechatronic gasket and cable connector seal was changed also. That was 2,000 thousand miles ago.
The specified 'temperature-in-short-order' filling method was used. There is no sign of fluid under the car, or where it is stored.
