Trip to US
Good Saturday to everyone.
My wife and I are planning a trip to the states at the end of August. Planning on going through New York , New Hampshire, Vermont and then home via Quebec.
I would like to know about any roads and sites that would be worth hitting. We have no set routes or schedules of any kind.
All ideas and suggestions appreciated.

Good question!
The wife and I are going through the same area in September returning through New Brunswick, Quebec, Montreal, Toronto and back into the US at Detroit. Canadian info needed also.

OK, just off the top of my head ...
The Finger Lakes region in NY is spectacular. Further east, Cooperstown is worth a visit (it ain't just baseball). The Glimmerglass summer theater there has great opera and other stuff (but closes at end of August, Tom). Also look into Fenimore and Farmers' museums there.
Nice ferry rides across Lake Champlain to Vermont.
In Vt., the Shelburne Museum is worth a stop, as is the town of Middlebury (and the Middlebury Inn).
You have to work to find unpleasant roads around any of these.

If your route home takes you to the Campbelton NB area, the run north into Quebec along the Matapedia River (Hwy 132, and then Hwy 195 to Matane) is spectacular, as the highway follows the river gorge closely. First long trip I took in my 8, and it was beautiful!
Kancamagus Highway, New Hampshire
Though the White Mountains are a year-round sportsman’s paradise, the autumnal fireworks are the undisputed highlights of New Hampshire’s 36-mile Kancamagus Highway. Serious leaf-peepers visit in October to see the maples, alder, and birch blazing in full Technicolor glory. In spring, expect yellow violets and wood anemone.
Stop: Take the half-mile hike to Sabbaday Falls, near Waterville, NH, to visit a three-tiered waterfall with easy access to the road.

For us scenic routes through small towns. Done the coast route through CT, RI, MA, ME.
Lived in NJ. Done the big city.

My wife and I like to drive along Route 7 in Vermont which parallels the NY border. Along it you'll enjoy small towns, several nice breweries and if you go South to North end in Lake Champlain / Burlington. I also second the Kangamagnus Hwy in NH. Have a great time!
