Default Trunk badge/button?

This may be a stupid question, but I was waxing my car the other day (2001 XKR Convertible) and when I put pressure on the trunk badge, it pressed in, like it is a button or something. It didn't do anything though (hopefully it didn't turn some lady in Germany's lights off).

Is this a button? If it is, what is it supposed to do and how is it supposed to work?

Pardon me, should have said boot, not trunk. I'm Canadian, not British.

Well on mine, if the car's unlocked, pressing it opens the boot/trunk.

The membership make-up of this Forum is such that many of us have become bi-lingual so boot/trunk, bonnet/hood and so on are (almost!) interchangeable.

Thanks! It doesn't work. I don't think that the third brake light is working either. Looks like I may have an electrical issue in the boot lid.

+1

If you have a multi-meter you can check to see if you have power going to the hi-mount brake light. I posted a cheap fix some time ago (https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...-light-159261/).

Trunk/Boot release is probably a separate issue.

Smile My Happy Button!!

Silver_Fox, The button is in fact another way to get into the Trunk/Boot! You should be able to push the button in and the Lid will pop open....If you're Dash button works, I would think that the Growler button would also......My Growler was stolen a year or so ago and I couldn't find a replacement anywhere.......then one day I clicked on Welsh Enterprises and there it was for $29.95....sure is pretty......all bright silver and green!

The non-working boot button is most likely caused by broken wires, usually where the conduit flexes at the bootlid hinge. IIRC there are posts on the forum addressing this. An easy fix.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. Yes, the dashboard button works, but the boot button doesn't. I'll have a look at the links bazjag and StuG sent.

Lightbulb Heck! Now you gotta look for it!

Silver_Fox, The problem must be with the wiring in the Trunk/Boot or a fuse somewhere....I hate tracking down these things! don't you?
