Default Trunk (Boot) release

Re 2003 XK8 convertible

When using either the remote button or the dash trunk release button, my trunk does not pop up. It does release the lock but the trunk stays closed. I have replaced the gas struts (Boxi) thinking this would help but it didn't. I would be happy if the trunk raised at least an inch to show that it is unlocked. I am not expecting a 2-3 ft raise

Because of the pandemic, I am ordering more from stores that do curbside pick up, however, I have to get out of the car to raise the trunk for attendants because they think it is closed.

Is there an adjustment for this or is it just a badly designed heavy trunk?

Randy,
as I recall there is a springed plunger in the trunk lid by the latch. Latch releases, compressed spring pushes plunger down lid pops.

Have you had a chance to see if it moves without obstruction?

this must be the plunger. No movement when trunk open but when lid is latched I hear it “pop” and trunk opens about an 1/8” . Is there an adjustment. That trunk is heavy maybe an 1/8” is all I am going to get

All three of mine are the same, about 1/4" to 1/2" on opening. Easy to mistake it for closed if you're not looking closely (or are expecting a honda) except for the message on the instrument cluster.

I typically proactively yell out the window that the trunk/boot is open, or get out of the car and move to the back for my exercise for the day during the 'off nominal times'.

My wife's 2006 XK8's trunk lid has always opened about a half-inch as well....

When the factory battery was in the process of dying, it would randomly pop the trunk open. Once I installed a new battery, that never happened again....

Same here on my '98. Pops open less than an inch. Electric struts would be needed to open it more.
