Default Turning side markers into indicators ( UK)

The front indicators on the XK8 are rather recessed and not easily visible from the side. Unusually for a UK vehicle it has yellow side markers which do not light and in my mind can cause confusion to other road users.
So I fitted LED G4 12v 3 watt AC/DC bulbs to them . Drill a 12mm hole where the american version would have a lamp holder and ease with a file ,the bulbs are rubbery and will press in.
I soldered wires on and siliconed around but you could use a holder. As they are AC DC it does not matter which way you connect the wires. Feed through to the indicator wiring front and rear and job done. They are very bright being equivalent to 30w.

I have shown the bulb to the left of its location position.

Interesting. I am considering putting indicators on the wing mirrors and deleting all the side markers and front wing indicators.

What I have done would be simpler because you have all the yellow fittings in place and the cost is only about £10 and its very odvious to other drivers as they are quite bright.

My consideration wasn't about simplicity it was more about getting rid of the the plastic lenses whilst keeping things UK legal.

Has your car not got the indicators on the sides in front of the doors?

If you are going to fit mirrors from a later model fine but a lens has to have an E11 mark to be legal.
Yes I do have the side repaters but not very bright and I still think if it looks like an indicator it should blink like an indicator !

Well if it is I did no fined it ...on the rear there is a grommet through to the boot (trunk) so you can go through to the rear light cluster.
the front is more difficult you need to thread up to come out behind the light unit . I drilled a hole below the water shedder thing and siliconed it up . Used scotch locks onto the indicator wiring so it was removeable . Also put a bag (4in x 2in ) of silicone jell into the rear of the light unit to stop the condensation.
You must use AC/DC Corn bulbs ...here is the ebay item number.. You can see they are 12.5mm dia and like spongy plastic.

I did this about 5 years ago. Relocated the ugly blinkers from the sides into the front lenses.

Details are here in my working thread.

I think someone modified the front marker lights on my car for just this purpose. Mine is a US spec car so I don't know if the marker wiring is different between it and the UK versions.

Anyhow... on one side of the car a previous owner added jumper wires inside the headlight access port wiring to the turn signal, drilled a hole in the rear outer corner of the headlight housing, and pulled the wiring out to the front marker lamp. (No grommet or adhesive to seal the hole.) Then they cut the original wiring to the marker lamp and spliced in the wires from the turn signal jumpers in headlight housing. BUT ... on the other side they added a second lamp and lamp socket to the marker light housing. They punched a whole in the housing plate from the back and used adhesive to mount the lamp socket. I'm not sure where the source of the wiring for this extra lamp socket comes from. It doesn't come from the headlight housing but through the inner fender wall (metal fender liner) near the brake master cylinder.

Both mods are an ugly mess. Here's hoping your mods prove more professional. I have to figure out how to 'unmodify' mine. Yuck.

Regulations differ from US to UK The side markers in UK would not be lit ..they are just filling a hole...an later jags they were clear but still did not light.
