Default U.K legal matter, towing.

Hi my XK8 is MOT'ed till August 14 but not tax'ed insured as it is covered by the company who store it.
When/if the weather improves over the next few weeks will it be in order to tow the car home under these circumstances, its about a 10 mile one way trip.
If its O.K is there any special measures I need to abide by to ensure there is no damage to anything. I would be using an 08 Mercedes 320 CLS CDI as the powerplant.

Many thanks for any replies,

ArtyH

Best get it trailored .Towing entails a vehicle with an internal combustion engine being used on a public road with out road tax or insurance ...doesnt sound like a good idea.

Just googled it ......No ...can only be moved with all 4 wheels off the ground .

Arty,

1. under the provisions of SORN, the vehicle cannot be used on the public highway. That includes standing or being towed. For both of these, the vehicle must have VED or be on trade plates.

2. with the requirements of continuous insurance, cover must be in place for any vehicle not under SORN.

You can easily (and relatively cheaply) take out one day insurance cover but the VED is the catch as you would lose a month just taxing and then surrendering.

Trailer or trade plates are the only options to remain completely within the law.

Default Goodness!

Wow. Here in rural Wisconsin we just hook a strap to a pickup truck and pull 'em down the road...

U.S. Dealers sometimes have "Push, Pull or Drag" Sales, any way to get your trade-in vehicle to the Dealership.

One Milwaukee Dealer, Bud "Weak Eyes" Sorens adopted the "Weak Eyes" Nickname because his vision was (supposedly) so bad that he couldn't see how bad your trade-in was and would allow you way too much money for it.

Two of my favourite used car dealers in Newcastle-upon-Tyne (UK) many years ago were "Wavy Dave" and "Don The Con".

Trading Standards have long since banished such colourful characters to history.

I always liked "Cheetham and Boult" or "Bodgit and Scarpa"
We had one dealer in the midlands years ago who everyone nicknamed Joseph - I could never understand why until it was explained to me that every car he sold had been so badly resprayed it looked like Joseph's Coat

Many years ago in Phoenix we had the Loan Arranger and his female sidekick Caroltta Sales. They dominated late night TV.
