UFO - Underhood Found Object
I have 2 97 XK8 Convertibles (2400 VIN numbers apart). As far as I know of they both have the same options.
In looking at the newer one, I found an object that the other one doesn't have. It sets on the right front below and inboard of the air filter box.
It is a cylinder, smaller than a soda can in diameter with 2 wires connected on top as shown in the picture.

It's the 'suppression module' for the alternator.
AFAIK both cars should have one in that location but it seems some are removed - gives easier accces to the alternator - and not replaced.
