Default Unidentified sensor

I cannot find any reference to the pictured sensor in my 2004 X100 convertible. It does not have adaptive cruise control.
Pictured is right side of radiator air intake, below the central cross bar.
AC condensor and oil cooler line are in the background.

Jack and Z are correct, it's the Ambient Air Temperature Sensor referenced by the Heating & Cooling system. See Part 5 in the diagram below:

Is the outside air temperature displayed inside the car? Where/how?

Press the "EXT" button located immediately to the right of the climate control display.

And hold it in for 2 seconds until it beeps if you want to continue to display the external temp.

the same technique will keep the recirculating air button from tuning off after a few minutes .
