Default Ambient Air Sensor on 2004 XJ8

I just bought a used Jag with no air sensor. Bought a sensor but don't know where it goes. Any help?

rmarti09 - I've moved your post to the XJ (X350/358) section for better visibility/response

Hi rmarti09,

Welcome to the forum!

The Ambient Air Temperature Sensor mounts in the radiator opening in the air dam, left of center when facing the car (see green arrow in the photo below). This prompts me to ask these questions: 1) how did you know the sensor was missing, and 2) why is the sensor missing? Has the car had front end collision damage?

Cheers,

Don

Don, the sensor IS there but wires not attached. May be good but if not I have a spare. If you have a pic of the "Bonnet Closed" sensor and where it hooks, I would appreciate it.

Thanks, Bob

Hi Bob,

I'm not sure about the "Bonnet Closed" switch. The closest thing I could find in the Workshop Manual (available for download in the HOW TO thread of this forum) is the "Hood Switch." See the illustration below. Hope this will help you figure it out.

Cheers,

Don

You are very "warm" Don.

There are two hood latches but only one has the open bonnet switch and

is under the latch which is covered with a sheet metal cover.

You can replace switch or bridge with a piece of wire to disable alarm message.

Very common fault on this Jag.

Great info, meirion1! The (U.S.) manual illustration seems to indicate that the latch with the switch is the one on the right when facing the car from the front. Does it vary depending on whether the car is RHD or LHD? On our LHD car, the hood/bonnet release is at the left A-pillar. The cable from the release lever runs to the left hood latch (or the right latch when viewing from the front of the car), and either the same cable or a separate cable continues on to the right latch (left when viewing from the front). Would it be just the opposite on a RHD car?

Cheers,

Don

From what you have said it is exactly the same on a LHD and RHD car.

A LHD car has the better arrangement since the driver can reach the bonnet release!

So, are you saying that on a RHD car the bonnet/hood release is on the passenger side????
