While poking around in the trunk of my new-to-me 2004 XK8, I came across a tall, apparently unutilized fastener sticking up from the boot bottom, between the battery and the fuse box. It seems unrelated to any structural component down there although the sightline is quite obscured.

Ideas?

 

There's a Secrets of the XK8 episode that mentions it being a retainer to keep the battery from sliding backwards. I recommend watching all episodes, extremely informative for new and seasoned XK8/XKR owners alike.
