Default Upgrading 97 Front Wheel Hubs: Do I Need Grease Deflector Rings?

I am replacing my vertical links on my 97 XK8 Conv with the later model ones that use the larger 80mm wheel bearing. Below is a copy of TSB 204-02 that applied to my 97 which outlines installing a Grease Deflector Ring whenever you reinstall the ABS Rotor Nut. Obviously my 97 did not have the rings but do I need to install them when I am using the upgraded hub components.

In other words, did this deflector ring come standard on 1999 - 2006) also or was that just an item that was recommended for the early 97 - 98 models & not necessary with the later ones.

Any experienced help would be appreciated - thanks!

Front Wheel Hub - Accumulation Of Excess Grease - Grease Deflector Ring
MODEL
1997 MY-ON XK8 Range
1998 MY-ON V8 Sedan NA

VIN
018108-ON
812256-ON

Issue:
Vehicles after the above VIN are equipped with a nylon grease deflector ring on the rotor nut of each front hub. This ring prevents the build up of excess grease near the seal which could collect dirt that could damage the seal.

Action:
When performing a repair on a 1997 MY-on XK8 that requires removing the rotor nut, install a grease deflector ring during reassembly. 1998 MY-on vehicles must always have the deflector ring reinstalled during any service to the front hub.

The deflector ring is a light interference fit on the nut and must be installed 0.5 mm from the edge of the hub.

Deflector ring: MJA 1846AA

You dont always get them in the wheel bearing kits, I am a bit puzzled as to what they do, it is not like the thing is loaded with grease.

I would not worry about them
