I've found quite a bit of information on replacing the high pressure power steering hose from the pump to the rack. Mine is leaking and I'm looking for part number MJB3984AB for my right hand drive 98 XK8. These hoses seem like they are getting harder to source, particularly in Australia.
I have come across some posts where people are using C2N1067 as an alternative. I believe that this hose was redesigned for the 4.2 version but fits earlier cars and routes slightly differently.
I have managed to source one of these later hoses, but before I commit to buying it, can anyone confirm that it is indeed a viable alternative?
Thanks in advance.
Hi Redjags,
I have not seen this upgrade personally so I'm just giving a visual assessment.
The important specs are the length and same fittings. The Jaguar parts website does not help much in that the actual hose component drawings are the same (compare part #13 in top drawing to part #12 in the lower drawing!). There is an O-Ring (lower drawing part #14) that perhaps needs investigating. Looking at the actual images though, it seems to reveal that the later C2N1067 has a slightly longer limb of rubber (Longer is better!). Also, there is some rubber deleted on the other limb. There is nothing obvious to suggest this change will not work, so faced with the same decision, I would commit to try it.
Thanks for that PKWise! I suppose the critical part of this is whether or not the fittings at each end are the same. I'm not sure if the pumps are identical on the 4 and 4.2 engines. I imagine that the steering rack connections would be common.
This picture shows what almost appears to be the alternative hose, but is the direct replacement for the original. Note the straight connector into the pump and the lack of rubber along the back of the steering rack. I would say that both hoses are pretty much the same, but with different numbers for each engine size... and different prices, probably! Acknowledgements to British Parts for the photo.
