Default Using org. phone connector to attach bluetooth

New 98 XK8 Convertible owner here and I'm going to use the wire that connected the original phone to the car an connect a Motorola t605 Bluetooth. I don't know if anyone else has trid this I have heard it being used to connect the mic but no real info. I will update as I get more info. And if there is a wiring diagram it would be greatly appreciated 👍. Ok anyone have a break down of this? I do believe this is the cradle wire.

l did try it a few years ago but did not succeed. Some time later my head unit started playing up and was replaced with an Android unit so l never tried the Motorola install again.
Hope you succeed.

I've been wondering if an X350 bluetooth phone module would plug & play - something like these from the same era

If you Google "Jaguar X308 Bluetooth Phone Install Jim Roal" you will find a PDF with everything you need to know. It's for an XJ8 but it's basically the same on an XK8.

This is excellent. I have been wanting to do this for years in my wife's XK8 (99). I will start this right away and report on any efforts, successful or otherwise. Stay tuned . . . . .

O.k. I have over read. Do I need to keep the old cell phone things in car, reason is I was not finding out the info I needed. Like what wires went to what I could find them in the schematic but all any of the lines would say RT4. So I took out the box at hed to bttm of the cubby. I took the harness of the old telephone it had a yellow 10 pin connector. Well so far I cut that off an made it an adapter saying I have to cut the main line in the car. Now here's my issue , on the steering wheel the anw and hang up button are not working. But all of the other buttons are. An I had too run the new mic cause the old one unless I was right up on it you could not hear me 😿. But with the new on I'm very very clear. Oh an I have sound coming out of every speaker here's my question do I need to put the old phone back in or is there other wires to connect to?

update: sorry for the babble but apon further review I do have it connected right and it's working. Phone connects when I get in car , and I can turn off engine, and not drop my call. And as for the anw/end call buttons on the steering wheel I have an idea to try. An for being able to stream music I think I'm going to attach it to the head unit . I'll post pictures about the anw/end of I figure it out.

The steering wheel phone buttons won't control your new Bluetooth module, but the volume up down buttons will still work as normal.

The audio streaming has to be connected separately - either at the CD player end, or the cassette player end. There are various hacks for this described on this forum. The T605 has the advantage of having a stereo audio pass through function where it will automatically switch between the line input and the Bluetooth streaming. On my car I spliced into the CD player audio cable (photo below), so that the CD player works as normal when the phone isn't connected/streaming and automatically switches to the Bluetooth source as soon as the phone starts streaming.

CD player cable pin outs:-

Many here are using the discount car stereo Bluetooth add on for streaming music from a phone

. Works perfectly and has perfect audio quality. Takes about an hour to install and the instructions are easy to follow. No wiring needs to be cut. I’ve had mine installed for about 4 years, very reliable.

Why would the OP install another Bluetooth device when he has just installed the T605?

because he says he can’t stream music without tearing into the head unit. The trunk installation of the discount car stereo unit is much easier than dash surgery.

He can connect the unit he's already installed by connecting it in the boot at the CD changer, rather than spending a few hundred dollars more on a different system.

I would certainly go that route instead of tearing into the dash (again ?).

was it mentioned how much the OP paid for his Bluetooth setup ?

At $129 the Bluetooth unit I’m using is very affordable, although it doesn’t have a phone feature. That is less important to me than it might be to others. Talking on the phone, even “hands free”, while driving has been proven to be a serious cognitive distraction, ie a substantial safety issue.

At my age I am reluctant to add another distraction to the driving experience, ymmv.

No tearing into the dash needed - all the connections are in the arm rest or boot.

I very rarely use the phone in the car, but sometimes it's super useful. As for music streaming, I only ever bother if it's a motorway journey, otherwise I prefer the sound the engine makes.

Splicing into the CD lead is child's play compared to some of the other jobs people regularly tackle on here, including things like replacing capacitors on the ECM, or replacing connectors on the throttle body etc.

Well I have decided to go the easy route. I'm just going to unplug the cord on my CD player. And I was just at my mom's house clearing out things from our house fire, and I found the CD changer my dad got me when I was in high school. And guess what it has the same type of hook ups 😁. So I think I'm going to set down and make me a aux port. Wish me luck cause I just taught myself how to solder 2 weeks ago.

Well here is the yellow connector I took off the phone module and how it will be set in the armrest. I was really wanting to use the cord that connected the original phone, well I didn't like the look and it was not needed. So I went for this set up.

Motorola Bluetooth t605 installed with yellow connector off of the and original Jaguar phone.
