Your '99 has a AJ27 engine which happens to be the same in most respects as the Ford Thunderbird/Lincoln LS of the same era. Ask at any local auto parts stores for the FelPro set for a '00 Lincoln LS. Should be under $40.

The engine serial number can best be viewed at you Jaguar dealer's on-line terminal using the car's VIN for look up. A polite call can usually obtain it. If you ask nicely they can also produce a build document with all the car's serial numbers and original details.

. . . and welcome to the forum!

The engine number (10 digits) is stamped on a raised rectangular pad on the front of the engine block near the thermostat housing.

I do have a 99 with the AJ27 engine. Last year I ordered new gaskets and received the wrong ones. In the parts system it calls for the red gasket. However mine actually took the black gasket. From what I gathered there were a few months when Jaguar continued to use the old gaskets and covers during that year. I suppose they had a supply of cam covers that they wanted to use before they were obsolete and rendered useless.
BTW, my engine number is 980623E1833.

If the VVT actuators come through the top of the cam cover then you need the thinner black gaskets and not the thicker orange and grey sets.

The AJ28 (4.0) S-Type and the 3.9 LS cam cover sets will work.

The front engine cover gaskets are NOT the same. The LS gaskets will work on the 4.0 S-type but NOT the 4.0 XJ/XK.

My door plate is stamped 11/98. However the VVT actuators come through the top of the cam cover. If you currently have the red and grey gaskets then you need to go with that. The black ones will not fit anyway.
