Default Wacky Gauges

First, my gas gauge wanted to fritz on me by not registering full when I filled the car up. Then it eventually corrected itself, albeit very slowly.

Now the speedometer is messed up. It's reading 90 mph when I'm doing 45 and won't go back to zero when I'm in park or shut off. However, it does edge lower every time I stop and start the car. By this time next month it ought to be back to normal.

My Buddy was right. Jag electronics suck. Thank God the convertible top still works ok. Today was the first nice day since fall, so I finally got to test it after having to keep it in the up position for the last 5 months!

What's an "ipk"? The car runs fine otherwise.

Instrument pack (IPK). It will be fine because yours is pre key transponder module - ie, no chip in key. Means you can just get keys and not have to program them. Lucky.
Due to this, the IPK shouldnt prevent car from running. If you can live with the Speedo being off etc you will be fine. I also don't think that the IPK is programmable on your car so you can probably get one used as long as it has same VCATS number. Did you try disconnecting the battery from 5 minutes Jack? See if corrects itself?

I didn't disconnect the battery. I didn't think that was an option but could try it.

Interesting about the key. If there is no chip, then why did they charge me $250 last summer at the Dealership to make a copy? I didn't even ask for the remote control module, just a spare key. I think I got ripped off![:@]

Having the speedo off isn't a big deal I guess. I found a used IPK for a '98 online but not a '97. The '98 looks identicle. Will it not fit a '97?

My Brother is in the car parts business, so maybe he can locate a used one for me.

You need to look at the numbers on the back of it and on the back of yours. If you were charged 250 I would say you were taken for a ride. XK in 97 had no KTM. Mid 98 is when that started. Did you get key and remote? If so that is why 250. If just a key, should have been like $60.00

Like I said, no remote, just the key.
