Default Waist mouldings

Does anyone have a line on replacement waist mouldings (2004 XK8)? I have an e-mail into Jaguar Heaven (wrecking yard). Mine are corroding in spots and the rubber has seperated in others. Figured it would be just easier to replace them if I can find a set. MC

Do you mean the door waist moulding (grey on early cars - black on later) that sits on top of the door with a rubber weatherstrip against the glass?

If so, they are a terrifying price (£324 or $514 each from Jaguar in January 2012) but Keith Westra did a guide on repainting them.

Aaaaghhh!

I thought mine were corroding but the metal was OK. It's the primer and paint which fails.

Keith's car has the Dorchester Grey glass and waist rail trims, mine has the matt black. Both types refinish successfully (I added photos of mine to Keith's thread).

It seems "terrifying price" and I have been friends as of late. I have an "appointment" Wednesday to get some keys made, and I am not amused by the price. 3 of my 4 waist trims are in OK shape, but the paint is lifting on 2 of them. One has the rubber seperating. I may try to repaint them and only look for a replacement for the one piece. I also have to repaint the mirror covers... I am considering doing the mirror covers and all the waist trim in matt black. It should look sharp with the black top and (soon to be) tinted windows. MC

Definitely try to repaint them before you resort to replacing all of them. It really isn't that bad of a job and Graham tells me the black is even easier than the gray is to do. Give us a shout if you have any more questions, and post your results if you decide to paint.
