Default weep from top pipe on thermostat

Has anyone seen a weep from the thermostat housing vent to expansion tank and been able to fix it?

I am surprised you still have what looks like an original surviving 4.2l plastic thermostat assembly. The plastic on these disintegrates and cracks and will only lead to a series of troubles. It is strongly suggested to replace the whole assembly, which include a new thermostat and temp. sensor and should be under 100 GBP.

My understanding is that the aluminum version of the coolant outlet duct / thermostat housing is available ONLY for the 4.0 engine. Can you confirm that they are available now for the 4.2 engine?

yea time to replace that t-stat housing. 4.2 motors do not have after after market alum t-stats. 97-2002 do. Check the seems around the resivor tank also for the orange tint. Mine had it so I replaced it also.

if you have miles on that baby I would replace the water pump also. It has plastic impellers that usually go bad. That repair is EASY as hell also and the part is cheap as jag parts go.

I asked the guys at "DMG" to confirm this item was for the 4.2 and they confirmed.

Looking at the site I googled the jag pt# they were providing, it only showed replacement for up to 02, keep in mind you are 1 year ahead over there so your 02 has the 4.2 where here they are all 4.0, ensure they just didn't check the year compatability, also check the return policy just in case.

Again, if you find an aluminum kit to fit a 4.2 engine, let us know. The consensus is that they still do not exist....

That photo on the eBay link above shows what appears to be the kit for the 4.0 engine....

I just went down this road last summer. I found no alum housing. I figured if the orig went 97k, I'd consider that pretty good time frame for it to hold up.

If you've found this Unicorn for the 4.2 guys I'll reach and say they all would pitch in and buy yours for you! Sorry I have the 4.0 or would pitch in as well ;-)

Just to close this off, I contacted the ebay seller who had the aluminium housing listed for the 4.2 and asked them to confirm that it would fit, they replied and confirmed that it would not fit, however they have not corrected their listing on ebay.

Thank you for your due diligence, I think many were hoping you were right but alas, you saved time getting things apart and finding the wrong part was ordered, I hate when that happens. Otherwise Most seem to be happy with the plastic replacements the orig one latest 10-15 years so the new one will be good for some time.
