Default weird trunk lights

i have an xk8 convertible. about 1.5 years ago i tried to fix the trunk light which stopped working....i replaced the main latch, inspected the wires...it all looked good and they worked then they did not...now....now...i put the jag in the garage to attend to the battery...hooked up the tender...still no trunk lights...i went to the garage 1.5 hours later the light were on...no other lights were on, none, no interior lights...about a min later they turned off....so i opened the door, the overhead lights went on and so did the trunk lights...about 2 min later the over head lights turned off as they should but the trunk lights remained on....then they shut off...

now this is just plain weird....when i got the car the lights worked then they stopped and have never worked again...

now i have the rear view mirror out for repair so the over head thing is hanging by wires...but it still works as designed....

WTF??????

Could this be related to the power wire connected to the rear view mirror that controls the mirror?

Need a clarification please. When you say trunk lites on, I'm picturing trunk open lights No t always going on. TTYT what you describe sounds rather normal for many of us.

it is hit or miss for my trunk lures. Probably the switch but very low priority for me.

if I missed something could you help me understand what specific behavior seems unusual to you?

all of a sudden they work, period. and they work correctly, after reading the manual i see they should stay on if the trunk is open for 15 min. so trunk is open now battery tender connected. the lights did not work for 1.5 years, then all of a sudden...on when trunk is open. go figure. there are so many strange things that these cars do that I thought someone had this thing as well? again, not working after repairs, power getting to lights but not activated when trunk is open....then ....and now...all of a sudden after all this time they work perfectly. That was the only thing that did not work...as of today...till i don't know when...everything on my jag works as intended, cigar lighter, antenna, stereo, interior and exterior lights, engine with no check engine lights.....

ok, battery charged and trunk lights work when you open the door, but not when you open the trunk...so there must be a wiring problem, perhaps something is wired backwards? can't say....so now when i want trunk lights i need to simply open a door. what a strange car I say.

the latest, we are back to normal, no trunk lights. but i have repaired my mirror. when it was disconnected the trunk lights worked perfectly...so it's something to do with whatever module is associated with the mirror inside the upper area you need to take off to access the mirror and or the mirror plug, when disconnected the trunk lights work.
