99 xk8 rear view mirror
I have read several threads about doing this....i have seen some youtube as well... i was able to get it off and I find I need a whole new one. went to ebay got a pos that was wrong and did not fit, so.....
1. where do i get a replacement...it has the YELLOW plug, not white , there is a brown wire. it has a knob on the outside facing the front of the car. it dims...i do not need any sensors or electrical hook ups per se...i just need a replacement mirror, so far i found that maybe an acura mirror from a tl might work...but i don't know and don't want to randomly order a 140 mirror...so please help. no other plugs than the yellow one.
2. so the electrical plugs matter?
thanks

Hiev,
Firstly, I highly doubt any repairs will cost less than buying a used replacement from a place as Ebay. Besides, there are several yellow plug XK mirrors available (one costing only $80) and would probably be the best route for your XK. Also, a mirror that does not fix exactly will just obstruct visibility. The view inside was not designed to accommodate an Acura rear view mirror, nor a generic one. Lastly, I know you are aiming not to necessarily bother with the electrical hook-ups, (and hide them somehow from view with electrical tape), but the first time you go night driving with a mirror that isn't auto-chromatically powered, it will prove aggravating, perhaps even dangerous.
Please for your safety and for your XK, consider buying an used OEM mirror. Your Jaguar deserves nothing less but excellence!

+1 on what motorcarman said, Sybesma's Electronics, 581 Ottawa Ave, Suite 100, Holland Mi. 49423, ph#1 800 456 4265, about $120.00, fixed, finished, done! Best way to go, this repair will not degrade as a stock replacement mirror will eventually do, as your OEM mirror has!

now that's a real help, i don't wish to get another used one just to have it go bad, like the other three i have already....so i will look into that place, perhaps someone else has a suggestion of where they got theirs done??? I do not have the rain sensor mirror and that photo of the one with the yellow plug, the only plug, looks correct, thank you all again....so unless anyone has a better suggestion of where to get a rebuild or replacement mirror ??????? I really just want a mirror that looks correct, i don't care what features it has...i have an 04 honda, no electronic mirror, just a switch to change mirror angle i never use, so glare of headlights behind me is not an issue, besides how do i know if any of the failed mirrors actually worked as promised, i got the car with the same problem, original mirror gone bad, the got an ebay mirror which turned out to be the wrong mirror and broken anyway upon examination, and then another used mirror which has failed just now..
.just an aside, i had little idea of how to remove the mirror from the windshield, watched many youtubes and messed with it Gently....and what i found was that it is held in place with and sole purpose at time of accident to just come right off...that's right, it just comes right off, you need to gently push it down on it's metal holder and it comes right off....i did it a few times....it just comes right off, no need to force or hammer or hit, just pull it down, counter intuitive as that might be...the plug, well you need to go into the headliner, which is not hard either it just pops off, gently...then remove two torque screws that are holding a metal clip in place which hides the only wire/plug mine had. now this is supposed to be the correct mirror, mine was replaced by a shop a couple of years ago...i have only the one yellow plug....your mileage may differ. this sybesmas place looks good and i have contacted them, maybe there is another place in the country, but it's nice to know several have been happy with their mirror refurbishments. thanks

mine had all gone black from the broken liquid I have installed a new mirror that has both forward and rear camera in it .
records everything with a 32 gb memory . Now I am in Cambodia but by gosh the whole thing brand new cost $40.00 and $10 to have it installed works like a charm and doesn't look out of place at all.
now I have a record of all this folks that shouldn't really be on road if one hits me as a foreigner this can be big trouble even if in the right but with it recorded I have a fighting chance and I have a reverse camera which is excellent … you may wanna give that some thought .

yes they wired it direct to the power so it doesn't interfere with the gig lighter and the rear camera is wired to the reverse light so when I put it into reverse the mirror turns into an almost full view of the behind really excellent . it took them about 45 mins to do the install no visible wires. yes the mirror is probably an inch or so longer then original and I was concerned about this blocking vision however it has no effect really and certainly makes up for it . over here there are many hood jumper see an expensive looking car and pretend to get run over . They also stand behind you when reversing and pretend to get hit so this really cheap technology under $50.00 fully installed is a godsend .
