What alternator should I buy?
My alternator just **** the bed on my way to work today. I tried a local and they sell a brand new Bosch unit for $245.
Rockauto has various prices on rebuilt alternators. The shipping and core cost of the AC/Delco reman bring the price close to that of the local Bosch unit.
The Denso unit is $1300 locally and around $800 in SNG Baratt. Do you recommend the lower cost reman units from Rockauto, or should I go for the Bosch?
Alternatively, has anyone used the alternators from Autozone, or Advanced Auto?

I purchased rebuilt from RA and it was not the correct one, although their website indicated it was. In my case I went to a local auto store with failed unit in hand and bought a rebuilt/remanufactured from them.
I think all that generally bearings and diodes are all that is changed and then they are good to go. I certainly wouldn't pay 1200 for new unless there were no other reasonable choices.

Ok, I am checking local shops to see if they can rebuild my current alternator before I commit to one of the re-man units.
Refurbishing your factory alternator is indeed the way to go. Just make certain the shop uses a genuine Denso kit. I paid right at $120 for full refurbishment back in July 2018 but I realize Puerto Rico costs may be higher....
I was able to find a local shop that will refurbish it with Denso parts for $145. He said he will have it done by Saturday morning. They are giving me a lifetime warranty to rebuild it.
Gee, when you say something like this, provide the link for future members facing this problem.

There ARE Chinese knock-offs of the Denso units for in the low $100s. I generally have alternators rebuilt by a local shop BUT lately they've gotten to where they are backed up months and so I've actually once bought one of the brand new Chinese versions off Amazon to get me by. It appeared to be absolutely identical to the OEM in every way that could be visually confirmed, right down to every little casting detail. The one I got was not claimed to be a real Denso and the generic box said made in China. But I doubt anyone could tell the difference by looking at them.
