Default what happens when....

you have the engine cover sitting over the master cylinder access cover, you reach behind you to get a wrench and the bonnet falls shut Guess I wanted a new one anyway!

....Or put the bonnet into the 90-degree service position. Be sure to run a couple of long bolts through the open hinge holes when you do, though. This will keep it from slamming down on you again....

I know what you mean. I was putting it in the service position once. I knew that as soon as I disconnected one side the other couldn't hold the weight of the bonnett so I put a basketball on top of the engine. The ball shifted to one of the valve covers. Just the weight of the bonnett on the plastic valve cover snapped a big chunk of plastic off. It didn't even slam down!!

Anyway i feel your pain man.

Look on the bright side. A few second earlier and it could have fallen on your head.

Funny how they just seem to go all at once too... mine was fine (or so I thought) until one day it near fell on me.

New cylinders and now I only have to pull it up about half way and it goes the rest by itself. Who knew.

As Graham said, better the cover than you head, the bonnet on these cars is HEAVY.
