I have been in London the past two days, the home of the mighty Jaguar. It appears they don't appreciate their own autos. It appears they prefer German, lots of Audi's, Mercedes, BMW's, VW's, even Porches. Tonight I saw my first Jag, a late 90's XKS. It appears Germany won the war after all.
Prior to London, I was up in Scotland and did see a F-Type at the rental car station, and an Astion Martin. Tomorrow I will be in Winchester, hope to see some down there.
In a nutshell free market economics and we are not patriotic consumers. The Germans made more reliable cars and the French made cheaper cars, and our Governments generally do not help protect home Industries (well maybe banks), alas (virtually) no more British car Industry.
I am assuming that buying a Mercedes is a lot less expensive in the UK then in the US. I see so many of them, even as taxi's. Last night when getting a Taxi, it was a Benz, I asked him why he liked the Benz over a Jag. He said that a Jag is for rich people. Good to know that all of us Jag owners are now considered rich.
Today I was able to see one more Jag, an F-Type. I was riding in a Pries (Uber). Went by too fast to get a shot of it. There are several Japanese autos, mostly Toyota's. Tomorrow heading for Winchester. Going to keep my eyes peeled for those elusive XK8's and XKR's. Beginning to feel that one might need to purchase a special license to go Jag spotting.
What would you say is the car-to-SUV/crossover ratio over there? Where I live in L.A. it's like 3/10.
Hard to say, I have only been here three days. I have seen a couple of Range Rovers and one Volvo SUV. I did discover that the police are now switching to full electric BMW's.

There seems to be more and more ugly SUVs around. Modern jags (XFs) and Range Rovers are quite common now but otherwise there is not too many British cars in daily use. Country roads in summer often have some old British classics out and about, I was behind an E-type the other day
Well - there is at least one XK8 in Winchester UK - and its blue! (Ask me how I know). Generally I buy British made cars and have always done.
Make sure you see King Arthurs Round Table at the Great Hall, King Alfreds statue near to the Guildhall, the Water Meadows and of course the Cathedral. I certainly hope you enjoy your stay and hopefully Wintonians provide a warm welcome - kind regards
Saw this on the street in Notting Hill. It was the first pic I took during our 10 days in England in 2017. Could not believe it was out in public. It was like the owner drove it to work and just parked it there every day. Of course never saw another one.
One of my cousins who lives in London always wants to purchase German cars then complain about their reliability. Thus far he's purchased two Audis, a Porsche Cayenne and a BMW 5-series. Always in the shop for some little niggle or two or an MoT failure of some sort. He didn't even consider a British brand, even after I suggested he look at a few.
Before emigrating, I had only British cars and didn't have any of the legendary electrical issues with any of them. If I moved back to the UK, I would most likely purchase an X351 as a daily driver.
@funracer, I'm surprised to see HUM131G, which is a 1969 number plate, parked on the street, even in Notting Hill. More than likely gets more people to look than at the Aston!

That's rather tight parking for a car like that. I would find somewhere else to park it. Like my garage.
