Default Wheel Question - Please read!

Hello Forum. I'm a new member, but on my 3rd XK8. Just love the body style.

My question is on the wheels for my 01. The spokes of the wheel don't match the chrome rim. It's a shade darker and, in my opinion, doesn't look right.

Is this an age issue? Is this how they are supposed to look? I'd really like to get the spokes to match the ring on the outside of the wheel.

Can I use some sort of polish to get the spokes to look more like chrome?

Thanks for the help! I look forward to many, many posts and discussions.

The ring is stainless steel and the spokes are painted. So they won't match many of the different styled wheels have the stainless trim ring. Some members have had the ring removed and had the wheel painted to match the spokes and they look good.

Welcome to the forum mbs xk8,

Split rim alloys - they are meant to look like that.

Hello mbs,

These are what they call a 2 part wheel, the stainless polished steel outer rims are very nice and quite exspensive. If you want to dull them up abit or put a satin finish to them you can use a zero size steel wool pad and rub them down until you get the desired look, this will take the high polish away and dull up the finish , like satin or you could do what my wife does and drag them on every curb she see's, that called curb rash!!!
or you could remove the wheel and send them out to be chromed all over, expensive also 4 to 600 bucks per wheel.

The rings are very expensive to replace about 200 bucks each and then another 150 in labor to remove and replace.

If I were you I would just be very happy with what I have!!

Happy Motoring...

THanks for the info... I'm almost tempted to paint the spokes black to match the top.

I was talking to a local wheel repairer who was familiar with these types of wheels (I happen to have Montreal's). I had a mishap with a curb and was looking into options to deal with the damage I did to the ring. This guy said he often would just remove the ring and clean up and buff the portion of the wheel that the ring had covered and the results looked great. I ended up getting a replacement wheel and still have the original Montreal stored in my garage. I have not done anything with that yet and keep mulling over whether or not to order a ring or just forget about it.
