Default Wheel refurb advice please

Hi, my 2005 XKR has split rims. I’ve been quoted £350 to powder coat all four wheels without splitting the rims. Alternatively, it’s £850 to do the job properly. This includes wheel/ tyre removal, refitting and balancing, based in Glasgow.
I once had split rims refurbed on a mini using the quick and dirty method and it looked ok. My vehicle is smart but not concourse condition. Any suggestions as to which way to go? Thanks.

l would disassemble the wheel and use paint if in same position. But as you say, the wheel will look OK either way, your choice at the end of the day.

I know opinions vary on this, but painted wheels can be spot-fixed if something happens. Or stripped, repaired and repainted any number of times. Powder coating is of course way tougher, but also way harder to spot-fix if something happens. To my untrained eyes, it feel like powder coating wheels would be the last restoration to these wheels, whether future restoration is needed or not. IOW, how would you even begin to remove damaged powder coating at a future point?

Your wheels, your call of course.

Fair comments. Many thanks. Just need to find a sand blaster thats big enough, else that’s a lot of messy paint stripper! Suppose i’ve got the rest of winter to sort it myself.

Having been thru split-rim repair issue, I can tell you to separate rims is a NOT a DIY job. It requires a specialized tool, similar to a TORX bit, and torque setting to re assemble, then a rebalance of wheel without tire before doing the standard mount and balance. If you have the BBS wheels with the thin chrome trim rings and they need replacement, separating the wheel is the only way to accomplish it. So, if they do, order ahead of time. Only ONE supplier still has them, located in UK. Stupid spendy! I found a specialty wheel shop in PHX AZ that knew the wheels and did a same-day turn-around for $150/wheel.
Good luck!
