Hi, I am removing my subframe. My question is on the XKR where do you attach the engine hoist? In the service manual you can see wherein XK8. Do you have to remove the supercharger? Thanks
Hi Rabs,
See pics of where I connected shackles to. You need two M12 cap head bolts. No, you don't need to remove anything.
For XKR, you don't need the special engine lift brackets because there are no hoses in the way.
TSB we got decades ago.
I do not have the lifting kit from Jaguar but I did source some bolts for the back of the cylinder heads to fashion a way to lift the engine properly.
The AJ28 engines in the X200 have some plates/brackets bolted to the rear of the heads so they can be adapted to lift AJV8s(AJ26, AJ27,AJ34)
Never looked at the bolt size for diameter and thread pitch but if someone wants it I can look at my setup.

In this case, I was just lifting the engine just a little bit to access a hard-to-reach bolt underneath, so I used straps instead of the usual chains. I usually back it up with a jack underneath for safety, but I try to avoid doing any primary engine lifting from below as not to damage the oil pan.

Off topic, but I’ve always wondered how the XKR handles water passing into the engine compartment thru the air vents in the hood/bonnet…

I just don't drive in the rain and when I wash the cars, I just wipe down the splashes in the engine compartment.
I will say that the top of the air filter box and plastic radiator hose coupler fade from the sun through the louvers.

it handles it very well. My 2002 XKR is a daily driver. Currently with 206,500 miles on the clock, 90,000+ since my purchase 8.5 years ago. The first day of ownership entailed driving it home about 500 miles in a blizzard with about 6 inches of snow on the roads.
Since that beginning, During cross country trips I’ve been caught in torrential downpours, so heavy I could not see the front of the car. Eventually I found a spot where I could pull far enough off the highway to be safe from other drivers plowing into me. It rained like that for about 3 hours.
That’s just one example, of many, of rain so fierce that I had pull off the road and wait for it to subside.
The engine has never missed beat.
When I finally have been able to get some covered shelter and raised the hood / bonnet expecting to see pools of water everywhere, I was surprised to discover that the engines own heat had evaporated all but a slight collection of droplets on the shock towers.

PS / no rust on any body panel, very light surface rust on exhaust manifolds. That’s all.
