Default Who makes a Scanner / Code reader for Jag XK

What company makes a scanner and/or code reader that will work on an XK8? From what I've read not all scanners will read Jaguar codes.

Thank you in advance!

All OBDII readers should read the standard set of codes. Jaguar, and all other manufacturers have specific codes beyond the standards.

If you want to read the full set the price jumps significantly. Auto Enginuity's Scan Tool is about the least expensive at about $500. Beyond that you can jump to $2500 and above.

I should really start a rental biz for my AE tool. I rarely use it, and there apparently is a good need for it. I loan it to another xk8 owner who works nearby me, and I have 'shipped' it to another member before, so maybe I should consider this.

I use Auto Engunuity with Jaguar Enhanced Software linked to my laptop or use a Jaguar WDS.

Its the only way to get the Jaguar specialist codes, any reader will read generic codes but you need something more precise to read the Jaguar specialist codes.Jaguar WDS can also be used for programming keys and electronic modules.

So may I ask why you chose the Auto Eng over the others?

Thanks

I chose that one as it can be used for many different car types if you purchase the Enhanced software packs

You can spend the $ to get AutoEnginuity, or you can spend less and get another brand. Other than the dealers' scanner systems, only A/E will scan all the codes, however.

If you're having normal issues, a lesser scanner may do just fine.

If you're having specific problems--nerve wracking problems--that keep you up at night looking at this Forum, $450 doesn't seem a high price to pay for A/E.

Auto Enginuity usually have re-conditioned units on Ebay if you want to save some cash

http://motors.shop.ebay.com/autoengi...id=p4340.l2562

Then its just a case of buying the Jaguar Enhanced Software

Well, we have an 02 X-Type in the shop here. When going to start vehicle, only hear clicking noise. Seems the PCM provides ground to the starter relay. I will attempt to swap computers, but with 5 available, took a few days to get one. Should have one in tomorrow. I need a scan tool so that we can get into the system, check theft deterrent, etc.... We have a Solus, Modis, and Tech 2... but never messed with Jag that much before. I just bought it from the customer, so now I have an interest in getting the car running.. LOL

I guess I'll pick up one of these, the re-furbished units on Ebay are older and don't think they will work.

I appreciate the help with scan tool choice..... I'll let you know what I think next week when I get mine.

Thanks,
Trevor

This is probably elementaryfor a shop, but my experience with clicking when starting tells me to look at primary circuit voltage and integrity as the click is usually caused by a solenoid that connects the starter motor but there is insufficient amperage to turn it.

The ground driver from the PCM to starter relay is dithering on and off. We have checked all power and grounds to PCM. The wiring resistance has been checked on power and ground for all related wiring as well.

Today the computer came in. This time there was no clicking involved, just nothing. So at this point we think we need to reflash the PCM possibly.

Anyone have any experience in this area?

Thanks,
Trevor

Just ordered the AE Scan Tool with Jag software. Can't believe they don't have something out for android. PPC and WM ? I think I have a few of those old units laying around the bottom of my closet somewhere. Anyone use one? Does it give close to same functionality as with a laptop?
