I have these nice silver button like holes with hex shaped centers that are behind the seats on opposite sides of the side of the passenger 'space' just above the rear speaker covers and just behind the front seat belt holder bracket.

I am wondering if these are for mounting a wind deflector?

I had a look at the tonneau conver for the top but nothing looked like it snapped into those two holes.

My concern is that they seem to be mounted at an angle of forty five degrees to the side of the car and all of the pins for mounting a wind deflector that I have seen are perpendicular to the sides of the car, or just straight if you will.

And if they are for a Wind Deflector what kind?

Hmmm... that's interesting. I haven't seen anything like that before. I agree that it's weird that the holes aren't perpendicular to the side of the car (assuming that it's for a wind deflector). I installed an aftermarket wind deflector, and the holes for it are at a 45 degree angle like that, however on mine the holes are threaded and I attach the wind deflector using thumb screws.

 

Any way to contact the previous owner to find out?

If it's a wind screen mounting hole, it might be to some proprietary aftermarket brand or it could have been custom.

I honestly have no clue what that's for. Sorry.

 

I think these are the mounts for a wind deflector JLM20658.
The parts you have are JLM201211 Mounts.
They should have 3 Plastic packesr that as you rotate will change the angle.
These are the parts that are always missing when they are sold on Ebay.
I have the complete kit without the instructions as to the exact position of the holes and can not find them anywhere.

Just had a look at your pictures again and they are exackly the same as mine

 

As you can see from the pictures these are the same.
A push button engages the wind deflector in to the mounts and a key releases it.
This is a genuine part taken from a Swiss 1997 XK8 so may be an early type.

Sorry I don't quite understand this.....are they the additional small part you show in your photo?

And yes they don't seem to be anywhere in the car if so.

Any idea where I can get a wind deflector to go with the mounting holes.

Pity it seems to have gotten lost over the years, I am the 3rd or 4th owner.

The ISMW would be very happy if I can find one.

Thanks, that over look is two minutes up the hill from the house.

That deflector you found looks pretty good, interesting it says you don't have to drill anything to install it.....I already have one kind of mounts...but I saw a Russian site that suggested an OEM deflector would be $900 so will definitely book mark the one you found.

There's 3 'buy it now'. Two at £170 and the other at £180. Beats the Russians by a long way.

Hi JJ

Had another look at the fitting
The 3 plastic washers are all 3mm thick so are just spacers.
The crome fitting has a single sharp thread on the shaft that screws through the side panel and then a second thread at the back has the nut and washer.
The shaft is slightly offset, so if you insert an allen key and turn it should change the angle for fitting.
I am sure this is a Jaguar part as it was fitted by Jaguar Geneva.
I have seen these on ebay but they never have the fittings, as you would have to hide the holes when selling the car.

Your pictures are great, Im in Cran Montana this weekend to watch the mens down hill world cup.
Thats not the main reason, my farther in law has told me he has a set of new flute alloys with snow tyres in the basement some where.

Is that where the pins from the deflector fit?

Are the pins hex shaped?

No the pins are round, what you can see in my picture is the thumb push that has a key to release. when you push this a smaller round pin comes out the opposite side into the fitting you have. The hex fitting seems to be for adjustment and to hold the fitting while you tighten the nut on the back.

My father in laws 1998 XK8 has sat from new in a heated underground garage all its life, it had 7000 km on the clock the last time I used it in Crans. This car looked like it had just rolled off the production line.

He brought it over to England this year as it was never used and then sold it because it was LHD and he found it hard down the small lanes.
As I had one he did'nt think I wanted it so sold for £10,000 to a dealer who must still be laughing all the way to the bank.

Discovery for all seasons XK8 because I want it.
Two XKs, a bit like two wifes, nice idea but logistics and cost would not permit.

Any chance of a measurement from underside of side swab to centre of fitting and one back from seat belt clip, I am still having no luck finding the correct position.
Local dealer has told me today that the part/part number was changed and the fitting instruction he had were straight off the EPC, so no good.

Hey Steve, good luck on fining a reasonably priced OEM wind deflector for a decent price. There are some on eBay but the prices are high, although all but 1 seems to be new, and the used on doesn't have keys. You asked me where I got mine and I realized I didn't respond, I got it on eBay, but was lucky as it had 3 keys with it, and part of the deal was a like new OEM tonneau cover with storage bag as well. I already had a cover, but mine was an aftermarket which seems to have stretched a bit and was saggy, and it never really fit correctly anyhow, and i didn't have a bag for it. Also, in my post on how I mounted mine, you saw how I mounted it into the top trim piece rather than below into the panel where the speakers are. I mentioned how I thought mine was mounted too high and I was considering adding additional lower mounts so that I had the option of lower and upper mounting. Well I looked at the panel with the speakers and it is just a cardboard like material which for me, with the home made mounts I am using, I felt this was not an option. The top piece where I have my mounts is actually made of plastic which holds my T nuts and screws better. Instead of lowering the mounting holes, I lowered the entire unit by flipping the locking mechanisms from side to side, so now the locking pin is about an inch and a half lower and is perfect. That doesn't seem much lower, when when looking at it, it really makes a big difference and seems correct to me now. Lastly, if you end up buying a used deflector without keys, I have 3 and would be willing to send you one. I have no idea if it would work, maybe they all are the same. Just let me know if it comes to that and I will send you one.
