Window Problem - not electrical

Window Problem - not electrical
My drivers side window recently stopped rising all the way to the top. I've had the door card off and tried playing with the adjusters mentioned in the Rev Sam youtube video, to no avail. At the top of the window travel there is a clunking noise and it just refuses to go any higher (about 10mm short of full travel), I get a couple of attempts from the sound of it before it gives up.
Looking at the bottom of the door, there is a toothed arm that is being driven and I wonder if that arm has lost a tooth possibly - or whatever is driving it may have. It's that sort of behaviour, and there is no obvious blockage at the top of the door.
Any ideas on the best way to tackle this, or alternative causes (please don't try and tell me to hold the button down for 5 seconds!!)
I'm guessing I'll be pulling the whole assembly out, but any ideas beforehand would be well received.

K, saw this once in my car. Year of 2 before it happened i raised my window but it was cockeyed. In a dumb move I tried to muscle through it and kept my finger on the up button - POW!!! a billion pieces of shattered glass.
Turns out that one of those stray glass nuggets made its way into the window track. The debris was now blocking the window travel.
As I recall, when my regulator went, the entire motion of the window slowed down, this sounds like something is blocking yours.
I'm sure youd have mentioned it if the window looked crooked.
Time to take the door card off, a 5 minute job. Ask for instructions if you've never done it. If window is cockeyed tell us, it's a common, easily fixed issue.
