Windscreen wipers ( mind of their own)
1997 XK8 Australian delivery
Hi all,
I note the windscreen wipers on my XK8 coupe have developed a mind of their own.
On selecting the wipers on to either delay or a continuous setting they may, or may not work normally for a period, they may suddenly stop in mid sweep or, if on delay function perform a continuous sweep. If the washers were operated they may continue to wipe.
Moving the control stalk stalk to a different position is likely to cause it to resume normal operation or enable one to return to the off position and actually have them stop
All quite strange, has anyone experienced similar?
Could it be associated with the central 'body ' computer
My XK8 seems to have been continually plagued with annoying computer glitches including the required replacement of the engine computer and minor irritations like the windows forgetting their program stops etc
I have no idea whether any of this linked
Any thought greatly appreciated
Al

With electrical gremlins on these cars, I've found the most economical first step is to start with the battery. When's the last time it was changed? You wouldn't believe the havoc caused by a low battery on these cars...
+1 on the battery. If not the motors can also fail. I had to replace mine when it would npt stop.
Sorry,
most of the time it is a fault parkposition-switch inside the wipermotor.
After opening the wipermotor you can bend the small metal stripe of the switch
back in position.
I´d done this work two years ago and the wipe still works accurate.
Good luck
Thomas
