Default Winter Wake Up

One of my Winter Storage precautions is to turn the ignition on every few weeks to get the fuel pump to cycle the check valve. That times out after a second without starting. Sitting in the car today where it's warm and quiet I could hear what sounds like the fan blower motor on very low speed from the passengers side seat. The Climate Control and blower were turned off. When the key is turned off the sound goes away.

My question is ... it this normal or is something amiss? I just never noticed it before.

I've noted the same fan-like noise from the same area in my 1999 XK8 when I turned-on the ignition to check the ELM327 and Torque Lite app that Santa brought me.
Climate control was off, too.

Curious to me is why do you do it? I'm one who is the leave it sit kind of guy and haven't been convinced otherwise (even with something as modern as an xk that shouldn't need a darn thing aside from a tender). Got my popcorn and studious glasses out as once you stop learning you should lock the casket door.

Just for fun search around sometime about fuel pump filures on cars that aren't driven reguarly. You can let yours set. 20 seconds of PM seems like time well spent VS a fuel pump replacement at 10 percent of the vehicles worth. Besides that I get to smell the leather during the cold long winter.

The Supercharger Coolant Pump will also come on with the Ignition, but it is located in the Engine Compartment, under the Air Box.

I would think that Jaguar has to comply to all US safety features to be able to ship cars to the US, but I may be wrong.

However, and I don't know when it became law--if it ever did--but a US automobile has to have "Positive Ventilation " features. This means that when the ignition is in the on position, engine running or not, the ventilation system (interior fan) must come on, however slight.

I'm sure that if you place you hand over the vents--maybe top or bottom--you should feel a very slight movement of air coming into the car.

What that does safety wise, I have no idea. There may be people who sit in their car , listening to the radio for long periods of time and lingering fuel vapors could be harmful. ????
