Worth changing v2 for v3 secondary tensioners
I have a 2005 XKR X100. It has done 95k miles. I understand it was factory fitted with v2 tensioners and that v1 was the version with cracking issues. My question is: was there also an inherent fault in v2 in order for jag to upgrade to v3 and should I change mine out? Thanks.
Version 2 secondary chain tensioners were a 'stop-gap' measure. They were simply a spring added to keep tension on the chain until the oil pressure 'came-up' and pressurized the tensioner.
They were abandoned in 2001/2002 and the aluminum bodied units were introduced.(version 3)
NO 4.2 liter engines were fitted with ANY of the 'problem' tensioners!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This guy has the exact same problem as you. You should swap notes.

Why are there 2 threads on the same subject.
Can the 2 be MERGED?
