I don't mean to sound redundant but, these are some beautiful cars; especially the 1997 model. The speed racer bumper is the unique part of the car. I have a quick question for someone that has knowledge about these xk8's. Exactly how many convertibles were made in 1997? Is 1997 the first year out ? I get confused about that sometimes. And, when will the 1997 be considered a classic as far as the value of the car going up, of course with all of the tsb's taken care of. Thank you. Im looking forward to a reply. P.s. Ive had my xk8 since 2008 and I pretty much got it together as far as the timing chains and the transmission. the car purrs like a cat. I was at the left turn signal the other day and hit the gas just a little too hard and the car was driving down the street sideways and the engine was roaring like a lion. People at the bus stop was looking at me funny but it was just a mistake. these things are a dream to drive

Post #4 has the figures on units built by year. https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...t-there-71526/ 1997 was the first year in the US (1996 MY for UK I think.)
I already consider mine a classic, but as to when that begins to impact their value in a positive way is anybody's guess. Just drive and enjoy.

As to when it will become a classic in the sense of appreciating values, don't get your hopes up. For instance, look at its predecessor, the XJS, which ceased production in MY 96 in the US. It is only now, almost 20 years after production ended, that certain models are beginning to approach the $20k mark. Even my near-perfect XJSC (Cabriolet), which is one of the rarest of the XJS line, cost me a few grand less than my '05 XK8 I purchased last year.
Now, some have argued that the X100 XK cars are more desirable than the XJS ever was and thus will become "classics" sooner, but only time will tell.

40% tax!? Ouch... I paid $50 tax on my 05 XK8 when I got it last year...
But even here in the states its a rare occasion to meet another one by chance.. must be even more so there!

in 1997 237.000 Dutch Guilders where paid for my XK8; That would be about 100.000 Euro's; One would buy a semi detached house for the same amount then. Taxes are 20% BPM (specific car tax) and 21 % VAT.
But still we're a happy little country, ranking #7 in the happiest country list...

Car Show
Took both of my babies to the car show in Mountain View and was taped for the Car Guy Channel (Mike Hennessy). www.carguychannel.com
Here are some pictures of the Jags that showed up. Oh and one shot of where I stopped on the way home.

Homecoming parade
Homecoming Queen parade. She won, then four years later graduated summa *** laude in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, doing research on converting the DNA of E. coli to enhance the production of isobutanol. Can't think of a better ride for an XJ8. Or any other car.
The orange flowers were made with extra-fuzzy pipe cleaners and small sections of flexible magnetic material.
