Default Wrinkled felt on A pillar

Amongst the TLC on my XKR I would like to tackle is to remove and reinstall the felt on the passenger side A pillar which is quite badly wrinkled, as though from humidity. I will try to attach a picture here so you can see when I mean

Before I start in, just wondering if anyone has sorted out a similar problem or has any idea what I'm going to encounter as I begin to remove that felt?

I did mine last year, and just used the existing material. The problem is that the foam padding underneath has dried and turned to powder. I went to an upholstery place and bought some 1/4 inch thick foam rubber. Carefully removed the cover, and used it for a pattern for the new foam underpad. I used 3M spray headliner adhesive to stick dowm the new foam and then put on the old cover stretching it back in place using the spray adhesive. The trick to keeping it in place was to hold the material in place around the edge while it dried. I used those black sping type paper clips all around the edge and left them overnight while the adhesive dried. I bought about 30 of them at the dollar store and it came out great.

Forum member "Reverend Sam" posted a how-to video with excellent instructions regarding this repair. You'll find it in the sticky threads at the top of the XK8/XKR forum. Relatively easy and inexpensive to do....

Took the three front pieces from my car to a local upholsterer and had it all done in my hand for under 100.00

I can't find that video amongst the various videos in that sticky thread. Do you have the actual link?

Just redid mine, got a very close match material from a local Auto upholstery shop, $20. A can of Permatex Heavy Duty Headliner Adhesive from the auto parts store and about 2 hours work. Done.

The hardest part is cleaning the parts before applying the new material as the old foam sticks to them, you have to get them clean.

This is a task I will also eventually be undertaking. Actually whatever wrinkles that occasionally appear on mine are not too bad but I went ahead and ordered a replacement driver's side A-piller from Barrett some time ago but never got around to installing. I think I ordered it when the wrinkling looked particularly noticeable but when I received the piece the wrinkles were gone. I noticed this phenomenon and figured out it coincides with the outside temperature. In normal Socal weather the pillars look fine but we have had a few "cold" streaks where the temps were cool early in the day. So when I started out in the morning the wrinkles were there but by the time it warmed up outside and I got to work they were gone.

Mine had cigarette holes in them when I go the car. Having the black interior I decided to recover mine in a black leather material.
