XK* prices
Well, any old luxury cars will need work either now or in the near future. As this Jag had cutting edge tech, for the time, faults are common as they age and may take specialist knowledge to fix.
It’s common for owners to sell the car when they get a huge repair quote that costs more then they paid for the car. Knowledgeable Jag owners need to see maintenance records as they know what the common faults are and how much they cost to repair. Buying (and for some just finding) parts is one thing, fitting them is another.
As Rothwell says, budget for buying the car and same again for parts. Other Forum members say that the X100 is for home DIYer mechanics as the cost of specialist labour will empty your bank account. I myself bought a first Gen XK8 as a bit of fun car to work on in my garage. That’s not what most people want.
Also the X100 is a niche car. Not really main stream in sport’s performance but has a certain beauty, a lovely V8 engine, and designed to be a comfortable long distance cruiser. That combination should always make you Careful. This cat can be really temperamental. When things go wrong, the costs can mount up quickly.

What they said.
British cars from the 90s tend not to be worth much. They're not as prestigious, exciting, or beloved as the Italians and Germans, but can come with repair bills that rival them. And, while I love my car, and the 4.0L is as much as any car really needs, a fast car it is not. Nor does it handle in a particularly inspiring way. And it sounds very tame.
The most appealing thing about the X100s and (in my biased opinion) especially the coupes is that they're pretty. But that's not yet enough to carry a lot of value. Maybe someday, but not now.

Well. I did trade my 2002 XK8 coupe last year...And now I find myself missing it...
I am in the market for another one...at least a 2003 convertible...Some what
leery as to what's out there...as the last one looked great topside but underneath
not so much....Does anyone out there know of a good buy?
Thanks...

Consider the XK8/R to be like a “trophy wife” — stunning to look at, but costly to maintain!
As the old song goes:
“If you wanna be happy for the rest of your life
Never make a pretty woman your wife
So from my personal point of view
Get an ugly girl to marry you”

I must have the only X-100 that has been inexpensive to maintain (knock on wood).
I’ve put about 80,000 miles on mine in 7 years. Now stands at 194,000 and still going strong.
the three items that have failed were the radiator (with a leak from side tank), the CPU fan, and the heater control valve. All told under $500.
Other than those items, my only expenses have been for consumable items and gasoline.
A lot of gasoline.
not bad for a car that cost me $7,800 seven years ago.
It helps to do your homework before a purchase and only look at cars with maintenance / repair documentation, and that have had the known issues already fixed.
