Default XK-8 headlamp troubleshooting

Well, I was _supposed_ to take delivery of a 2004 XK-8 today. However the dealer (not a jag dealer) is still having issues with the HID headlights. On my previous inspection, I noted that neither the driver's or passenger side headlamps were working and that he would need to fix this.

So...he put in a new bulb on the driver's side and it now works. However a new bulb on the passenger side had no effect.

Anyone here have any troubleshooting tips?

Generally 3 things with the HID's. Bulb, Fuse or Ballast. Mine neded up being the ballast. It's a headlight out job.

Just got a call from them. Apparently a bad ballast. Thanks

I'd try to get him to warranty the other ballast if he doesn't want to replace it.
Winter's coming and they ain't cheap.

Be sure to check the self leveling works properly after they've finished.

When the ignition is switched on, the dipped beam lights should rise to maximum elevation and then lower to the correct height. They should then be at the same level - not one beam higher than the other.

Thanks GGG,

Do all XK-8's have self leveling headlamps or was it an option?

That same thought crossed my mind!

I think your 2004 will have self leveling. Nothing in the Parts Manual or JTIS suggests otherwise than the HID package for 2004 MY includes it.
