Default XK8 '97 Transmission into '2000

Guys,

I may need a new Gearbox for my new 2000 XK8 with 97K miles. I happen to fall upon a very low miles '97 gearbox just having come out of an XK8 that was replaced with a Vette engine and drivetrain. Engine also available incase anyone is interested, as I definitely don't need that. I'm getting a great deal on the box simply b/c the PO just doesn't care about its worth and is very happy with the new engine. Therefore, I want to move on this opportunity, but I want to ensure the the Guru's on here if the '97 box will go into a 2000 without any hassles. I still have my '00 gearbox in the car, so any accompanying parts necessary are right there.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. AAMCO will be doing the switch out.

Oh, and BTW, can I use Redline instead of the Gold stuff sold by ZF (ridiculous pricing!), as I read on one of CCC's posts that it's compatible and rated properly (and MUCH less expensive). I used Redline instead of Mobil 1 in my previously owned Lotus Esprit V8 and the improvement was definitely noticeable.

Thanks!!

I can't comment on the acceptance of the transmission by the operating system. I'm sure someone will be around with an answer soon. If it is feasible to make the swap, have the shop put the updated A drum in the replacement so you don't have to go through this again.

I have installed a 1998 XJ8 gearbox into a 2000 XJ8 so the answer is YES they will work.

What I did NOT do was to use the old ROTARY SWITCH on the newer gearbox. They have different part numbers so I did not tempt fate. I used the same part with the same car.

They might work but I don't know.

As long as it is a ZF5HP24 it will work.

Thanks RJ... Bob...

I was just concerned about surrounding parts and electronics that might be troublesome after the swap. They are definitely ZF5HP24, I believe all the way till 2002 where it changed upto the ZF6HP26 in '03.

Bob, are you saying that you removed the rotary switch from your old or existing 2000 gearbox and installed it with the incoming 1998 box? (therefore discarding the 1998's rotary switch)?

Or vice versa....

Thanks....

The rotary switch that came with the car STAYED WITH THE CAR.
I don't know if the parts will interchange because I did not try that.

The ZF5HP24 is fitted to the 1997-2002 XK8 and 1998-2003 XJ8.
They will all work.
