XK8 convertibile - Doors locking
I own a Jaguar XK8 convertibile model year 1997; I understand that, to lock the doors, I need to use the remote control, then to unlock the doors I have two chances:
- either I can unlock the doors using the remote control;
- or I can unlock the doors using the key, turning it to the rear side direction (there is no chance to turn the key on the opposite direction).
Question: is there any chance to lock the doors using the key, without using the remote control?
Thanks in advance, Silvio.

Yes, the key should lock and unlock doors just like the remote. Clockwise to unlock and counterclockwise to lock.
When I got my 2002 XKR convertible last year the drivers door lock was defective.
Sometimes I could turn the key to lock and sometimes it would not turn (like yours).
However, most of the time the locks would cycle a few times and then set off the alarm, so I could not lock it.
I took it to a local Jaguar specialist and they replaced the drivers door lock with a good used part.
They charges $425 for the lock and $450 labor. Expensive, but I did not know how to diagnose it myself.
You could buy a good used lock on eBay for about $150 if you can install it yourself.
If I were you I would use the remote and don't worry about the lock unless it gets worse.
Regards,
Alan.

Cordiali saluti,
Alan.

Is there any procedure to avoid to switch on the alarm when I close the car by the key?
Silvio.
Agreed that the dealer did not change the lock cylinder.
It was the lock actuator mechanism inside the door.
Maybe the solenoid was worn out but I don't have the old part so cannot confirm.
