Default XK8 Convertible

Hello, I just bought White 1997 Jaguar Xk8 Convertible with only 31tml in clock. But it has been flooded in Texas in 2017 So there is plenty of faults. All the oils have been changed. And took all fuses out, oiled fuse boxes and put new fuses in.

Idle is unstable and it gives P0135, P0121, P0123 and P1000. I will start by replacing spark plugs and lambda and by cleaning throttle body. Also old petrol might cause problems.

Abs gives code C1095 which is pump motor. Will check it someday. I have spare part motor but I guess it is abs ecu fault.

Sometimes it says "transmission fault" but when I read fault codes it gives nothing, even it shows message... Maybe limb home mode? Transmission also slips when message is on.

Electric seats wont work, and drivers seat is stuck in very very close to steering wheel, I barely fit in and I have to keep my head out of window Fuse are ok. I will take seats off and check all electronics under them.

Electric roof dont work. When I press button to lower roof rear windows lower but then nothing. No hurry to get it working since it will be just raining in here. But it just may be that I dont know who to operate roof. User manual is missing.

Fuel door wont open when I press button on dash.

Lots of work needed but it is really interesting and beautiful car. Same seller has also Xk8 as arden edition from texas also but it has clean title.

I admire your bravery.

You will get there with work and determination but it will take a lot of both.

Good luck with your project and please keep us posted on progress. Several members have considered flooded late Jaguars but have been put off by the potential damage to sensitive electronics.

Welcome to the Forum.

How did a flooded out XK8 from Texas, USA, end up in Finland? To re-surrect this old XK8 with water damage from 2 years ago will be a labour of love! You sound hands on and just getting the engine running will be the easier of the challenges that await you.

There's a lot of info in the Stickies' Threats at the top of the list of threads. "Stickies" are eternal threads that are kept eternally by the Forum moderators. There you will find invaluable info including the "How To....." - link below.
https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...ts-data-29800/
There are PDF copies of the User manuals there too.

The most important fact about the X100 is the sensitivity to a good strong battery where low voltage can cause all sorts of mystery problems. Make sure that the battery and cables are good and that the body earth connections are solid. Gus' Jagrepair.com website is invaluable and a Go-To resource for me.
JagRepair.com - Jaguar Repair Information Resource
There you will find an electrical guide for your Model Year (MY) car plus an excellent HOW-TO Electrical Grounding Check walk through.

You should be aware that the XK8 has a CAN bus network where all the control modules are linked and "talk" to each other. And there are a lot of modules including a number of Body Processor Modules that control a lot of driver's buttons. The "hub" is the instrument cluster (IC) panel and this can be the sauce of a lot of problems. Again an electrical guide for your car is available on the Stickies.

I would suggest you check all the control modules for water damage/shorts etc. and find someone/somewhere that can check/repair them. Those in the USA recommend a company called ASI for repair of their modules. You will need to do something similar where you are, as 1 bad capacitor/short on a Printed Circuit Board (PCB) somewhere can cause all sorts of unrelated problems. i hope you enjoy digging out electrical gremlins.

As an example of interconnectivity - the wheel speed sensors are read by the ABS module, and the data used by the Transmission TCM, to confirm gear changes with the engine ECU, which cross references to the IC and then an average is used for the speedo display. Complicated eh! Your seats won't move - probably the seat control module under the seat squib. Dash buttons not working - probably a bad Body Processor module.

It's fair to say that the XK8 is a rolling computer and in your case, the previous owner has spilled coffee into the computer.

The transmission on your car is the "weaker" of the 3 choices in the X100 range - the ZF5HP24 gearbox. If the car has been flooded, water may have got into the transmission, so best change ATF and filters (lots of info on this forum for this task) and if you're into mechanical work, there are upgrades available including ZF and aftermarket upgrades on the A-Drum and PR valve to make it more reliable.

Lots of fun to be had. Let us know how you get on. I would start new threads on each individual problem as each Forum member will respond to items that they have dealt with.

When you push the "roof" button do you hear a ding noise ? You do have to hold the button down. With mine it takes a couple of seconds before anything happens. You might want to check the hydraulic fluid level in the boot behind the right side panel. You'll definitely need a shop manual, and lots of time and beer. This site will be a big help. Best of luck !

There is lots of salvage, crash and flood cars coming from US to finland and to eastern europe where they come to finland.

Today I cleaned throttle body and searched for vaccuum leaks, couldn't find any. After cleaning car idle is steady and no codes from throttle body There is still code from bank 1 s1 lambda but could take it off because my jack is under friends car where I'm changing clutch but I haven't got parts yet from autodoc...

Also took seat off and tested motors which work so I opened seat module which is badly oxidized. So I need new one with part number LJA2160AG. There seems to be few in ebay in UK and i have contacts to russia where is lots of cheap brit car parts.

Didn't test roof but oil reservoir is half full.

Already downloaded jtis21 and user manual. Now i'm planning to buy ids tool. Does anyone know where I could buy working chinese cracked tool and software? I already have Tech2 for chevrolet and gmc, Lynx Evo and IID tool for land rovers.

I wonder if this would work for programming xk8? https://www.ebay.com/itm/323102434394

I used a XJ8 seat module. Some functions may be different, but the basic seat movement is the same. LNC2160AD

Default VCATs label in trunk

There are many problems with using replacement control modules in our car esp. from e£&y where sellers assure you it’ll fit your car.

Do you have the VCATs label in your car trunk that lists the module you have? Pic below
