I'll say it again, all of this points to the brake switch. The switch informs the module to activate a solenoid to release from Park. If you put your finger in the general area of the shifter, you can feel it. You should be able to hear it in a quiet environment, too.

To force the release, you need to unscrew the plastic plug near the shifter. Once off, you can use something to force the release (screwdriver, key?). It is documented in the owner's manual...

Okay .The new starter motor is fitted and the car is purring again.
the voltmeter is now showing 12 volts with the engine running and about 10v with ignition on so its still low but the car starts up every time and runs 100% which is what matters most. I have 13.2 v at the fully charged battery terminals.

I am now a happy bunny again and so is the owner at my local petrol station. ! !
