XK8 glove box
I am replacing the glove box on my XK8. I bought a used one - does anyone know how to remove the key cylinder so that
my existing key can lock and unlock the box?

Hi,
This post from jhshannon shows the back of the handle in pics 3 & 4. The barrel looks to be held in place by (I'm assuming) 4 plastic tangs . It might be difficult to flex these out so it can be withdrawn

At least you have the old handle to practise on - or perhaps it's intact and you can just swop?

Michael is right, the handle is just held in place by plastic tabs - and a torsion spring. I mention the spring because I remember how stupid it made me feel when reassembling mine one day. One of those easy / obvious but not intuitive moments (bang head on wall) :-)
IOW look and note orientation of spring and placement of spring ends.

Thanks for the reply, but no cigar! I am replacing my XK8 glove box. The new (used) box came with a handle and key barrel. No key.
Each car's glove box is keyed unique to your ignition key. Simply put I have two options, 1 - purchase a new key barrel - re-keyed
to my ignition key, or 2 exchange the new glove box door's key barrel with my original. glove box door's barrel.
I priced a new barrel, $197 US. I opted to use my old barrel. To remove the old barrel from the old glove box I broke the barrel retaining tabs
like someone said I would. However, I have a barrel the works with my key. Now I need to remove the key barrel from the new glove box door.
insert my old barrel, and I can't afford to break the barrel retaining tabs.
YouTube coves the how for an X model Jag. The XK8 is a different animal.
So - does anybody know how to remove the XK8 glove box key barrel,, without beaking the barrel retaining tabs.
