Default XK8 Ignition Coil Question

Hi All,
My 2000 XK8 has a bad H ignition coil. I verified by moving from Cylinder 7 to 8, and I got bad G ignition coil. Is there any advantage to replace all coils, or will just changing the bad one be ok.
I ordered a set of 8 just to be sure. Also new Bosch Iridium spark plugs.

Much thanks,
Eric "erjent" Jordan

Given the age of the vehicle, and since there's no mention of the miles on it, it's best to replace all the coil units and spark plugs as a set. It's also a good idea to renew the cam cover gaskets and spark plug boss seals as they tend to leak oil into the spark plug wells can cause the coil units to fail.

Attached is the cylinder numbering schemes for the AJ-V8.

Much thanks! Where exactly do the Boss Seals go? Over the plug threads?

I just watched some videos. I now know where the Boss seals are located. BTW, 2000 XK8 with 65,000 miles. Unfortunately, the gas gauge is faulty so I bought another instrument cluster. When it arrived I was heart broken 199,000 miles.

Be careful with changing the instrument cluster as the PATS (Passive Anti-Theft System) works through the cluster and can 'brick' the car unless programmed correctly using dealer-level equipment.

I didn't think that was in use in 2000 MY.

Hi erjent,

You'll probably be fine with the Bosch plugs, but just so you know, the original plugs were probably made by NGK, and some Jaguar engines don't like other brands of plugs.

For others who want to know the correct NGK plug for their Jaguar, check this link:

NGK Spark Plug Finder

Cheers,

Don
