Default XK8 LPG (liquid petroleum gas) dual fuel conversion

had a couple of questions on this off topic on another thread so thought i would post up a few points here is it helps anyone in the US not familiar with it.

conversions cost around £2,000 UK sterling

"doughnut" tank fitted in spare wheel well (i then use a skinny spare or a can of tyre weld) see pic. 80 litre tank, but you can only fill it to about 75% capacity

8 separate lpg injectors to each cyl (in blue - see pic), seamlessly switches from petrol to lpg once water up to temp and warmed up the lpg regulator. then when you switch off, it restarts in petrol and so the cycle begins again. no loss in performance.

lpg filler is down out of sight where the towbar would go

hope this helps - ask away if you want to know anymore about these systems

That`s pretty cool!!! I am thinking of converting a vehicle to propane, but it is not likely to be my XKR...

Nice installation! What is the driving range - mile/kms on the LPG side?

My older conversions were dual fuel as well - gasoline and LPG - also switched from the dash. Major difference was that my systems simply released LPG vapor into the same carburetor/air (MAF?) system that used gasoline. One could flip a switch and go back and forth, and with one of the later iterations, the fuel gauge actually switched as well between the gas tank and the LPG cylinders.

Injecting LPG directly into the cylinders is intriguing!

Please tell us more - or perhaps I am the only one interested? DaleD

about 220 - 250 miles if you go easy - but you've always got petrol in the other tank if you run out of lpg!

early lpg systems (single point) release it straight into the intake but modern (mutipoint) systems have one injector per cyl - much more efficient.

everything you need to know on the web - eg here

Thanks again NewBoy - any contacts in the US doing what you are doing in the UK? I read today that we may be looking at $5/gal gasoline fuel here this year - thats why I made the Lincoln/Mercury conversions in the early 80's.

This injection system sounds like it may be more expensive to install - but much more efficient - and I love my kitty, and I want to be able to drive it as long as I can! DaleD
